The project was first announced in 2019 with a budget of £19.6 million, but costs have risen to £25.6 million. The extra money will be shared by the council and the Department for Education.

If approved, the school will have classrooms, therapy spaces, and a hydrotherapy pool. It will open in 2026, and the Humber Education Trust will help run it. Frederick Holmes School will stay open during construction.
