SIXEP at Sellafield is 40 years old. It cleans dirty water from nuclear buildings, removing harmful ions to make it safe for the sea.
SIXEP has cleaned over 30 million cubic metres of water since 1985. It works all the time and is key to keeping the site safe.
A new project, SCP, is being built to clean water with SIXEP until the 2060s. It will have new parts to manage waste better from 2029.
