Glastonbury Festival began in 1970 with £1 tickets, camping, and free milk. About 1,500 people came. Now, it's a famous music event.

In 1971, the Pyramid Stage was set up. Entry was free, and 12,000 people came. It became a famous part of the festival.
In 1979, Glastonbury Fayre had a "Year of the Child" theme. More people came, but organisers lost money, so the festival paused in 1980.
In 1994, the Pyramid Stage caught fire before the festival. A new stage was built quickly. Glastonbury was on TV for the first time that year.
In 2000, many sneaked into the Pyramid Stage event. A "super fence" was built in 2002, stopping this, and 140,000 attended.
In 2008, Jay-Z was the first hip-hop artist to headline Glastonbury, known for rock music. This helped more diverse acts perform later.
The festival stopped in 2020 and 2021 because of Covid-19. It came back in 2022 and is planning for 2025.
